Kitaabi, a smiling green book with a pink bow

Hi, I'm Kitaabi. I pair you with a fellow reader. You each pick a book for the other and swap when you meet.

  • Invite only
  • Free to join
  • One book each

Why swap with a stranger?

No algorithm. Just a fellow reader choosing a book for you.

  • Find books you'd never pick

Your match sees your taste with fresh eyes and picks something you'd never have found yourself.

  • Choose a book for someone

Browse your match's reading list, and pick the book you’d press into a friend’s hands.

  • Meet a real reader

Talk books with someone who loves them too. Face to face, not on a screen.

  • No cost, just one book

Joining is free. You bring one book for your match and go home with one picked for you.

How it works

Three small steps, and I'll help with each one.

  1. Join an exchange

Tell me a few books you loved and a few you didn't, so your match gets to know your taste. Then I'll save your place in an exchange near you.

  2. Get a secret match

I pair you with another reader. You see their handle and book list, not their name. Then you pick a book for them.

  3. Meet and swap

Meet your match at the group venue or a public spot you agree on, and swap books. You go home with a book picked just for you, and maybe a new reading friend.

Two ways to meet

You pick one when you join an exchange. Either way, you give one book and get one back.

One-on-one

Just you and your match. You agree on a time and place together. Pick a public spot, like a café or a library.

Group meet-up

Everyone meets at the same time and place, like a little book party. The venue is shared in the exchange details by the time names are revealed. You swap with your match and meet other readers too.

Who sees what?

Meeting a stranger needs some care, so here's exactly what others can see.

  • What everyone sees

Your reader page: handle, city, intro, and books. Anyone can open it without signing in, but it never shows your name, so keep names and contact details out of your intro.

  • What your match sees

I reveal your real name the day before the meet-up, so you can find each other. No one else ever sees it.

  • What no one sees

Your email and phone number. You chat by handle, and if a message feels wrong, you can report it to me.
